Thespians, writers, videographers, lend us your ears.
The Ashland Daily Tidings and Mail Tribune are hosting a video contest in honor of William Shakespeare. Shakespeare Scenes calls for creative video tributes to the Bard. Videos can be up to five minutes long.
Act out your favorite scene from one of Shakespeare's plays, reinterpret a scene with modern language, or write your own scene in Shakespeare-style language.
Entrants and viewers can also view other submissions and vote on their favorites. The contest kicks off June 7 and runs until 5 p.m. August 17. The site will be closed to submissions afterward. Voting will run from the start of the contest until 5 p.m. August 24.
Judges will be looking for originality, technical skill, acting quality and overall production value. Videos with inappropriate content like nudity, and over-the-top language and violence will not be accepted. Avoid copyrighted music or characters.
There will be prizes for first, second and third place entries, and an additional prize for People's Choice. First prize will be a $50 gift certificate to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Second prize will be an Oregon Shakespeare Festival poster signed by cast and crew. Third place will be a souvenir program signed by cast. There will also be a people's choice award, a $20 gift certificate from the Tudor Guild.
Winners will be announced in a story in the Ashland Daily Tidings August 28 edition.
So screw your creativity to the sticking place and have fun.
Update for filmmakers (posted at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27): We are working on getting the results of the contest together. They'll be posted online and in print soon! Thanks for your patience.
